Laura Galbraith: Illustration Progress

As I was searching for a subject for the sketch blog, Laura Gabraith's Illustration Progress caught my eye. Galbraith is a Miami-native currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. She tends to sketch a single female subject in a dreamy and whimsical setting. My favorite piece on her blog is titled the Sea of Madness. As she explains best herself, her goal for this piece is to be "going for the whole half-awake, half-asleep sort of feeling." The subject's hair, dress, and the surrounding sea seem to be in a continuous wave-like float throughout the entire composition. The soft color palette adds to the dream-like state of mind. Something I found particularly interesting is the upside down urban backdrop. It almost appears as if the subject is upside down herself, with her hair hanging in the air.  Similar to her other work, she depicts the semi nude female in an eccentric way. I would describe her style as a combination of feminism, the urban complexity  of New York, and her Jamaican heritage. This blog has definitely made it to my Favorites tab!
